Space Question?

hi guys

I was presented a LUN from a storage 85GB.

fdisk -l shows 85GB space cool

but after I formatted the partition using fdisk and mkfs.ext3 I only get 75GB space available

why is that? why too many GB lost?

thanks a lot

etx3 by default reserves 5% space. You can google that and read more about it. I think you can use tune2fs to reclaim that default reservation, but if it is critical FS, I would leave it in. There is a very valid reason why you need that reservation Smilie. I think every FS also eats up some space for its own internal data structures namely inode table etc and there is no way to reclaim that Smilie
