Copying files to a remote NFS filesystem

Hi guys Maybe a stupid question.. IS possible, in unix, to copy files to a remote NFS shared filesystem without mounting it? Just like windows does: copy * \\folderA\folderB Thanks..

You can use scp or ftp, if you want to copy a file/folder to remote system.

Good stuff here is also, automount (but it is still mounting).
For instance, you share from NFS server to client wanting to make cp, and on client side you make automount setup.

That way, a request will mount the NFS share, standard cp will take place, and after n seconds if there is no activity it will umount. n seconds can be what you desire.

Regards.
Peasant.

Hi Peasent,

I have to copy files using NFS (no scp or sftp) and I don't want to mount the remote filesystem.
I'm on AIX, I don't know if automount is available for AIX.

Thanks for answer.

You cannot copy files to NFS without mounting it. AIX have automount see man automount.
