Testing NAS /mountpoint accessible

Hello.

What's the best way to ensure that a NFS filesystem mounted from a disk-cabine (NAS) is accessible?

My proposal:

1. ping to the ip of the cabine
2. verify filesystem is mounted
3. touch a file inside the /mountpoint

Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Just list it in a bg child and if it does not find entries in a second, kill it.
Code:
ls /mount_point | wc -l >/tmp/mp.$$ &
sleep 1
if [ -s /tmp/mp.$$ -a $(</tmp/mp.$$) != 0 ]
then
 rc=0
else
 kill -9 $! 2>/dev/null
 rc=1
fi
rm -f /tmp/mp.$$
exit $rc

showmount -e <filername> | grep </vol/qtree>.
And check for your server in the output.

Hope this works.
