UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi all ,
could anyone please help with find command in AIX. I am trying to find files but there are more than 30thousand files in there.I realise I need to use xargs somehow but dunno the correct way to pull this.

Code:

find /log_directory/* -prune -xdev -type f -mtime +20 | xargs ls -l

the command seems to work OK if number of files is below 100 , but not thousands which defeats my purpose of using "xargs"

Problem is, that the * will be evaluated by the shell 1st and so will have more than the allowed number of parameters.

find /log_directory \( -type d -a ! -name log_directory \) -prune -o -xdev -type f -mtime +20 -print | xargs ls -l

You might want to read my little introduction to find for a starter on how to use "find".

"xargs" is not necessary, just use "-ls" as find option, it does quite the same. In general, it is advisable to use "find ... -exec .." instead of "find ... | xargs" most of the times.
