Search for lines in one file in another
I am trying to search for lines present in file a that do not exist in file b and print out the lines. E.g.

file a
Code:
apple                          
pear                           
banana 
orange

file b
Code:
apple
banana
orange

would output to stdout: pear.

How do I go about doing this? I've tried a few combinations but they don't seem to work.

If your shell supports process substitution:

Code:
comm -3 <(sort a) <(sort b)

or:

Code:
grep -xvFf  b a
