UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am working on a project to develop an embedded device that can transfer files between two usb devices ( pen drives). We are using an NUC950A ARM9 microcontroller and we've put the Linux 2.1 kernel on the development board and it works. Can i use nano -x to design my own GUI so that i can run it on top of the kernel and use it to display the files and do a selective file transfer?

Well, all processes in UNIX run on top of the kernel! An X file manager would let you select and move files. Do you have to make it simple/idiot-proof?

but it has to have a GUI, cant be command lines.

Well, CDE, for instance, comes with a gui file manager, but if you gave such to a nitwit, who knows where they would drop or delete what! You might be able to chroot it, so it is locked in a subtree.

If you need custom, many would do that as a web service, and if drop and drag is too hard, you can still have lists and check box guis to control activities.
