UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am getting the data from text file and it contains comma and double quootes.
Eg: text file like this:

Code:

Travelling up Cattai Ridge Rd, going through the "S" bends at the top.
Felt a "pull" and pain in groin area, on right side after lifting at work.
Repeat "twisting" while working manual earth job, Lifting bamboo sticks.

I want to read this data and generate the .csv file.
each row of the file has to accomidate in a column of csv file. since this data contains comma, if i take as it is it is splitting into mutliple columns which is not correct. Hence i am using the below command before and after :

But still there double quotes in my data, it is splitting into multiple columns. Please provide me the solution for this.

sed 's/\"/\\042/g'

Could u pls explain me how it works? i m a beginner to unix.

s - substitute
\  - escape 
" - the string you want to replace, in this case "
\042 - octal value of " (we escaped the  \ before it so it prints \042 instead of actual ")
global(g) - location where to make the substitute, in this case everywhere matched.

\042

can u give me any other solution with out converting into ASCII?
