How to make my aliases default?

Question How to make my aliases default?
i am new to unix

i know that aliases are to make a user own name for a particular command

but my problem is when we close the terminal the aliases wont work in the newely opened terminal

what should i do to make them default

if you use bash, add them to .profile (both should be in your home directory). For ksh: .profile. Other shells, please read the documentation.

Smilie how can i add them to .profile ,im using bash and i also want it in csh also

is there any other way....some said me to create an .aliases file
