Is it a hard exam to pass?

Hi,

I'm new to Linux. I installed Linux for a first time few months ago. Later, about a month ago, I purchased training set from Unix Academy and completed first part and feel like I'm ready for the exam. The set comes with the 4 exams included, so it's not about money. I'm just curious, can anybody tell me how hard this exam could be before I take it? Kinda "hard" or "not too hard" or "easy", anything will help. I need little encouragment Smilie

Thanks!

Which specific exam are you referring to?

I've just found this my old post. I was very new to Linux and to this forum when I posted this question and today I can answer it myself, as I passed all four UNIX Academy pre-admin exams. So it's like talking to myself three months back, weird... The training set comes bundled with 4 exams. Two are about general command line skills and two about general networking under Linux. There's not surcharge for the exams. I owe to this training almost all of my initial Linux-UNIX skills. Today I would say it is very easy, but then in the beginning it was almost mysterious. The exam questions are about the subjects on training DVDs. So if you watch it carefully and perform the lab part (type commands on Linux machine) it shouldn't be a problem to pass it. Each exam comes with three attempts allowed, and I needed a second attempt only once, on second networking exam. Today I've got cheap Sun machine (but man, what a piece of hardware!!!) from ebay and I'm learning for Solaris Certification. I'm almost ecstatic about Solaris, what cool system! Last time I was that fascinated by technology, when I was 12 years old and received huge "DIY" technology set for my birthday! I remember, it was keeping me busy for a year! I'm still learning Linux, and I have CentOS installed on my another PC, but today Solaris occupies my mind really.

Thanks for posting that newlinuxuser1. It gives me hope that I'll be able to figure it out and get certified at some point in the future.

Oh, it isn't too hard after all. I studied some electronics in college and it is much more complex, involving intensive math (how's about solving system of partial differential equations). Just don't repeat my initial mistake and don't try get it all at once. Go step by step, learn basics and it will clear a lot of ground ahead. It sounds much more intimidating than it really is. Also don't be discouraged by discouraged. There's plenty of guys who will tell you stuff "it requires 20 years of experience... blah, blah...", don't listen to it. Most of people who say that don't know that much, really. The guys who are really knowledgeable, can explain very complex ideas in very simple ways and offer really great advise. Of cause it requires hard work, but this hard work is enjoyable! Isn't it? I hardly can describe all long hours I spend with my linux/solaris as laborious. In short, while there's a lot it's all approachable... and passing the exams is not that difficult after all.

Did you take both Solaris exams and get certified?
