Parameter to a filename
I have multiple file named as follows:
name_1_string
name_2_string
name_3_string
name_4_string
.
.
.

and i want to use sed command.
When I try the following
Code:
for a in {1..4..1}
do
sed .......
done name_$a_string

it cannot retrieve the filename, it stops at name_

Any help would be appreciated

You need to separate the variable $a from _string (as a_string would also be a valid variable name).

Code:
done name_${a}_string

That said, I don't see how your script works, or what exactly you are trying to do, from the description you have given.

Could you please elaborate?

I guess it should be
