when I make

cp -pr users/abc/def/car.exe own

unix only creates a file "own" with the content of "car.exe" under the root folder, that's nonsense.

What folder are you in when you run the command? I know that maybe a basic question... I would use the FULL path just to be sure.

also, dont designate the destination filename. Allow the cp to use the same name you original file has.

Question unknowable ..

I just don't understand what you are telling me, I'm sorry.

if I tried these soultions above the copy sometimes fails with messages like 'not such a folder' or so, but when I make a destination folder it works and it copies only the file, not the subolders.

maybe I was in the false root, because I tried from /tmp...so it could be that the system searched /tmp/users/...how daft.

but that also can't be true, because he takes the file by
[cp -pr users/abc/def/car.exe own] and writes it to the /root as a file called own. I haven't the faintest idea.

I'll have a look tomorrow at it and write back soon.
today it's enough...mental breakdownSmilie
