makefile

Hi,

I've searched for makefile in Google and read the pages and tried, but can't seem to understand or get the results as shown in the examples. Can someone help on this?

i normally compile my c files like this
gcc sampleFile.c -o sampleFile

how do I use makefile now instead?

try:
Code:
# save this as: mymakefile.mk
# usage: to compile myprog.c:
#  make -f mymakefile.mk  myprog
# will compile simple programs that don't require other files
# to compile.

# C compiler name
CC=gcc

# loggging
LOGIT=2>&1 | tee -a make.log

# flags for C like -s or -Wall
# you add what you want here
CFLAGS=

# linker objects like anotherfile.o or somefile.a
# you add what you want here
LNKFILES=

#libraries to read
# left blank you add what you want here
LNKLIB=

# compile C code
.c:
        @ rm -f make.log
        $(CC) $(CFLAGS) $*.c -o $* $(LNKFILES) $(LNKLIB)
        @rm -f $*.o
        @ echo "Successful Compilation of $*.c"

i copied it into my file and saved it as mymakefile.mk
then i used
file1.c is the C program to be compiled
i tried in so make ways
case 1:
bash2.0-$ make -f mymakefile.mk file1

case 2:
bash2.0-$ make -f mymakefile.mk file1.c

its giving an error saying unexpectd end of line seen at 26 line
then i modified it as shown
Save this as: mymakefile.mk
# Usage: to compile myprog.c:
# make -f mymakefile.mk myprog
# will compile simple programs that don't require other files

#To compile.
# CC compiler name
CC=gcc
# Logging
LOGIT=2>&1 | tee -a make.log
# flags for C like -s or -Wall
# you add what you want here
CFLAGS= -Wall

# linker objects like anotherfile.o or somefile.a
# you add what you want here
#LNKFILES=

#libraries to read
# left blank you add what you want here
#LNKLIB=

# compile C code
.c:

@ $(CC) $*.c

then also it is giving

just go through this one scmay

normally we use the make file, if we have more dependencies are involved then we go for a meke
to run a normal simple c file, even you are not required to write a make file, just type at u r console as

make samplefile

that's it, it will careate a samplefile.exe

use make when u have dependencies only
