Question Why "tag" a slice?

Why "tag" a slice? I can mount it anyway.

What "tags" are admissable?

I assume that this is a Solaris question. The tags are:
0=UNASSIGNED
1=BOOT
2=ROOT
3=SWAP
4=USR
5=BACKUP
7=VAR
8=HOME

The tags are very limited and so is their usefullness. They are visible in format and they might stop an admin from making an error. For awhile I tried to use them. When I did: UNASSIGNED really meant unassigned. Otherwise it had some tag. When nothing seemed to fit, I used HOME. The trouble was that I never believed the tags. I need more than an unassigned tag to be sure that a slice was free. And there's never enough slices anyway. It's rare to leave some slices free. So I don't pay much attention to them anymore.
