I have a problem to start up my Solaris Ultra 5. When it boots up I get a strange clicking sound, sounds like the hard drive that is "thinking" very hard. On the screen I get these messages:
Boot device: Files and Args:
Please check cable and try again
Network link setup fail
Time out waiting for ARP/RARP packet
These messages just keep on repeating and it does not go any further than that.
most times i hear a clicking sound on my hd (somethign like that) i had badsectors ro somethign very near to that. i don't know very much baout solaris but it should be possible like with linxu to start it with only running a shell. then you could check you harddrive.
The problem is that I can not even get that far. It starts happening just after it is finished counting. The sound is almost like when you remove a stiffy from the drive whilst it is working.
Thanks nonbarye, but it not working. When I stop it the clicking stops, but if I boot it from disk I get an error message and it return to the ( Ok ) prompt.

I tried all of them including disk@0,0 but I keep on getting the same error message;

I switched the machine on again today and it gave the same error messages, only now it also promted a few configuration changes that it is doing. Then it just continued to start up and work as normal. I have re-booted it a few times to check and it is working fine.
Do you have a link where I can read up about the PROM parameters, if this should happen again?

My J-Class system seems to have killed its onboard NIC. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a *cost effective* :p NIC for this machine? I am currently running 11i v1 on it, and have available PCI-X 5v slots.
