cutting columns if delimiter has more than one charecter (|^)

Hi All,
I am having a file with the delimiter '|^'.
File name:test_dlim.csv

Quote:
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
abc|^sdfhs|^sdf|^sdfaf|^
I want to cut the first field of this using awk command.

I tried with the help of the following link:
https://www.unix.com/unix-dummies-que...charecter.html

So the command i used is:

Code:

awk -F '\\|^' '{print $1}' test_dlim.csv

But instead of getting the first field alone i am getting all the fields.

... since you only look $1 you don't need to set complicated -F delimiter such as '\\|\\^' or "\\\|\\\^"
Code:
awk -F"|" '{print$1}' test_dlim.csv
