Hi All

Hope this is not going to upset you but i really need help.

I'm new to Unix (Brand New) have never worked on a unix system before in my life so please bear with me.

I'm in the process to install Freebsd but have no idea how to go ahead. The system that i have does not have any cd drive nor floppy drive, but has a network card.

Is it possible to configure it network card to boot from network to be able to install freebsd and if it is possible can you please give some information on how to do it.

This will be highly appreciated as i'm really interested to get the os up and running.

Yes, it is possible to do from the network, but since CD ROM drives are very cheap, I suggest you get one. It is much easier for a novice to build a OS with a CDROM versus trying to to it over a network connection.

This is covered in the FreeBSD Handbook here.

You just need to download the floppy boot disks for your particular hardware. You can access www.freebsd.org and find the links to the media for your hardware and install over the network.

Although, I agree with Neo. A CD-ROM is a way to go especially if you are new to this because you might be installing multiple times during the learning process.

The .ISOs for FreeBSD are available freely as well. I would suggest going with FreeBSD 4.10 and not going with the 5.x branch until you are into the swing of things.

I manage to get it installed over the network.

Now all that i have to do is to figure out how to configure it, can't wait to get back to it.
