System Variables

Is there something called system variables in Unix?

Can someone list a few of them?

Does it include variables like HOME, TERM, PWD etc.?

Those are usually called environment variables, and they're not precisely global. When you log in, /etc/profile is processed in order to set them in your shell. Processes you create get a copy of the current values as you have them.
