critical temperature eached, shutting down

Hey all,

I have attached an image of a problem that I've been having since last night. My computer will be on no more than 5-10 min and I'll get this message that pops up and my computer shutsdown.

I know for a fact my computer is not overheated becasue I will have it off for hours and then turn it on, only to have this happen.

I don't know where else to get help, and after doing some research I figured it was a Unix/Kernel issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get this resolved.

Make sure the fans work fine
Put thermic paste between the CPU and the radiator that must dissipate the heat comming from it.

This is almost certainly a hardware problem. Assuming all fans are spinning and the cabinet is not obviously hot then you could have a faulty temperature sensor.

I already cleared out the fan and re-applied thermal paste. It was no help.

Some background info:

Last night I was creating a bootable DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) using UNetbootin. However, when I got to the boot screen (see attached image) there was a timer that counted down from 10. Once the timer reached zero it would simply just start again and keep looping. If i pressed the tab key I would get a message like so:

> /ubnkern initrd=/ubninit

If I press ESC I get this for a few second, and then it goes back to the timer:

boot:

I am attributing this problem to something in the system because, 10 min before I did this I had no problem what-so-ever with my system.

Any other suggestions?

This is nothing to do with unix as such. Maybe report the issue to the developers.

It is just strange that at the same time this happen, my hardware goes out? Its about a 4 year old laptop, but I've never had any issues with cooling. I've always cleaned out the fan and applied new thermal paste to the cpu.

In addition, after researching, I found the SIGKILL is related to POSIX, so that is also why I thought it may be a system issue rather than a hardware issue.

It looks like it is more a matter of DBAN compatibility with your hardware than a real cooling problem.
