Windows to Unix via Serial Port
I've got a problem that I could really use some help on. What I'm trying to do is connect a Windows laptop to a Unix desktop in order to feed the unix information from a program that runs on the windows machine. I have the windows machine all set up. But I'm not sure what to do with the Unix box. I've set up the programs so that they should talk to one another but I'm not getting any information...can anyone help me????

Send in more details of your problem.If you are trying to send some kind of logs from your windows machine to the unix box you can ftp those logs to the unix box.

I've never tried connecting a windows and a unix via a serial cable. But if there's an ethernet port in both machines, a crossover cable (about $10) can get the two machines to communicate with each other.

Another problem I ran into while doing this was the IP detection settings. Apparently, the two machines need to have the same setting. Here at work, the two computers we've connected both expect static IP addresses (which you can set). I haven't tried it yet, but it might be possible to have both machines expect dynamic IP addresses, too.
