How can I show my "current" directory as the KSH prompt?

Hi All,

This is an embarrassingly simple question and couldn't think of "keywords" to search for the answer, but how do I change my UNIX/KSH prompt to show the machine name and my "current" but not "full" directory?

For example: if the machine name is "machine" and I'm currently in "/test/hello/hithere/" is it possible for the KSH prompt to show:

machine(hithere)#

Thanks!

search for these terms on this forum and you will find many examples

Code:
ksh PS1 $PWD

Note that the way to achieve what you want to do differs between pdksh, ksh88 and ksh93

Thanks Frank for the help! Also Thanks FPMurphy. I'm currently using Sun Solaris (Sun Fire X4150), so I'm not totally sure which version KSH I have. Will see what i can find. Thanks!

this might work for you.
Code:
export PS1='$HOSTNAME (${PWD##*/}) $ '
