Wonder what the financial cost of not meeting SLA, etc. might have been? But understandable, it is a costly exercise and businesses need to address the costings both for and against such purchases.

Shame isn't it.

For job scheduling, we use Control-M on AIX UNIX servers, seem to work pretty well.

I don't know what your problems are but I use and create JCL on the fly on the unix server to execute on the mainframe everyday.
I can control when to kick off the next job on mainframe or unix using special resource files or what not. So whether it's 4pm or 10pm our next job will kick off when it's predecessor has completed successfully on, say, the unix server.

In fact, I have nothing (no JCL) saved on the mainframe and everything is done via JES JCL...the moment I ftp it to the mainframe is the moment the job kicks off.

As for control flow in unix, I do the same thing with unix scripts. Once a script/jobs completes successfully, it invokes the next script and so on...our unix scripts also create those JCL to send the to the mainframe...

There's no special cost that I know of when I created all of these...my jobs have been running for 8 years or so now like this...and knock on wood, has abended maybe 10 times in those 8 years. I'm so bored, I have to write scripts to entertain myself... :-/

Hi, have 6 applications that rely on Payroll related data from the mainframe (OS/390). Probably not what you are looking for, but we have mostly metacode data that is gotten ready to be picked up by JCL's and then eventually transfered to the RS/6000's via (1) CA version of pconnet (which i say is rather usless) and (2) via JES2FTP.
OK now if I understood your intial question, are you looking to emulate JCL, JES(log/Mesg) like jobs in unix?

would like to know...thnx

Thankyou for agreeing with my point "There isn't Mainframe-JCL for the UNIX platform per-se.".
You create/write it on a unix platform, but you don't run it on the same platform. You transfer it to a MF and run it from there.

IMHO, If you want good quality production control from MF to unix (and vice-versa) look into acquiring a Control-M agent for your unix systems.
