Ah, you're using tcsh. Try,

$ set TERM=xterm vim

Hi, i used the same command , it didnt show any error but my problem has not been solved as when i do "syntax on" it only underlines some text and turns some of the text in bold. no color is there.

You might have to change your ssh clients' emulation. See if it supports xterm or look for colour option.

in vim editor, if i want to save that file, i have to save and exit (ZZ). i want to be able to save the file without exiting. that way, i can compile the code and if i need to change some coding, i can just switch over without retyping "vim myprogram.c". is there a way to save without exit?...
