Well, you can always try searching using Google for free materials and/or professional classes. I would learn using what is available for free first, in addition, I would learn by doing. If that didnt work, I would seek out instructor led training, but keep in mind its quite expensive!

A few links found doing a search...
New Horizons
A Google Search On "Unix Training"
Free HPUX Materials
HP Education Classes
Sun Education Classes

...there are tons more...try searching yourself using your specific search criteria!

Thats true.

UNIX great to use. Not cheap to learn! (if paying for a course)

The first step of your training should be to tell us which version/flavor of UNIX you want training in so we can make better recommendations to you. So asking around and finding out which versions they use where you work (if that is in fact where you plan to use your newly acquired skills) would be a good start.

Though much of what you learn on any *NIX system translates to other flavors, it's not always the case. For instance, if you're good at (and trained in) administering Linux boxes, it doesn't necessarily mean you can step in and be an administrator of a Solaris network.

I never had much luck with formal training (Sun and HP). The few times I went it seemed that the instructors knew less than a good part of the classroom. The times that I felt we had a good instructor, there would be students in the class that lacked the foundational understanding and would slow the class down enough to make it unproductive. I have found that just reading or enjoying a CBT has been the best for me.

Cheers,

Keith

Are there any worthwhile UNIX CBTs? I'd be curious to know. I saw one on Redhat7 once but it kinda' sucked.
