replace 0.00 with awk/sed

Hi
I have a problem when i use awk or sed to replace characters in file.
For example when I want to replace line like this :

Code:
00000O120100512   1.70        1.59        0.00      +7.280
I want to get a new line :
0000000O120100512   1.70        1.59       13.56      +7.280

In ksh :
Code:
awk -v NEWSTRING="13.56" -v OLDSTRING="0.00 " -v LINENUM=1 '{ {if (NR == LINENUM) sub(OLDSTRING,NEWSTRING)} print $0 }' file

i get result :
Code:
13.5600O120100512   1.70        1.59       0.00      +7.280
I don't understand why system ignore "." and replace "0000"

Hi.

Interestingly, on my awk I get the right result.

But try escaping the . (dot)

Code:
awk -v NEWSTRING="13.56" -v OLDSTRING="0\.00 " -v LINENUM=1 '{ {if (NR == LINENUM) sub(OLDSTRING,NEWSTRING)} print $0 }' file
