How can you be sure? Do you have a trace/log?

What sort of program is it? What is it meant to do? Did you write the program?
What Operating System and shell?
How are you running the program when it works?
How are you running the program when it does not work?
Is there a core dump file?
Is there a log file containing messages or any on-screen error messages?

Hello all!

I'm beginner in Linux and I have the same problem.
The process was killed by unknown reason.
How can I see who killed the process and why?
How can I prevent killing?
I use Suse x64 Linux.

Thanks in advance.

It is a background service, no I didn't.
Suse x64
/etc/init.d/prog1 start
/etc/init.d/prog1 start (or restart)
Where is the core dump file?
No error message on the screen. Which log file I need to see what happened?

What is in
/etc/init.d/prog1

What do you type to decide that the process is working?
Does it ever work?
Does it fail after a certain amount of time?

What do you type to decide that the process is not working?

Note the word "kill" has specific meaning in unix.
