1. compile the source with the debug switch on gcc -g -o myprog myprog.c
2. To force a crash run your program, switch to another process , then kill -s SEGV [pid]
where pid == the process id of the running program
3. get into gdb
ba is backtrace which shows you the contents of the stack at the time the program crashed.
thanks jim for the reply
I exactly do the same from my code
we compile the exe using the -g gdb option and then we fire killall using system() function from some function
this leads to a system crash and we get a stack trace

In windows we get a crash dump file with .dmp extension which we open using a windbg and then analyze the dump
So I wanted to know to create such a crash dump file in linux and the open a crash dump and analyze it?

My question is how can I tell if a zone crashs or shuts down... (4 Replies)
