To find the Row number

Hi

Can any one tell me what is the command to find out the row id or row number for a particular record

Hi.

That depends on what your definition of "a record" is. A record (line) in a file, a record from a database table, ...?

What kind of record? Can you post some data with an example of what you're looking for?

a record which i mean is a line the file
Eg :
i am searching for a pattern "abc" in a file say file1 .txt
cat file1.txt | grep "abc"
I need to display the row number of this line
thanks
