Unix Resources

Good morning all!

Does any know of any good resources to read up on why people would use Unix, what the weaknesses are of the platform and how it is used!

Many thanks:

Note: This is for an assignment, I know you are not suppose to ask for help or post assignment questions but all I am requesting from your vast pool of knowledge are some links. As I have struggled to find any relevant (good) info on the net and my Library is pretty poor!

Again many thanks!

Great doc... I have read about 60% of it.

I personally dont think UNIX has any weaknesses... That is clearly explained in the aforementioned document. If there are, they are minor, IMHO.

The reason UNIX has survived so many pitfalls that other OS'es have succumbed to is it has been adapted along they way.

There is a whole section in that doc near the middle that talks specifically about why UNIX is so resilient.

I suggest that if you want to look at the "weaknesses" of the UNIX operating environment you should not focus on technology but on business and commerical issues.

Money (commercial power), politics (political power) and influence (media power) rule the world, not superior technology (scientific power). There are many brilliant ideas everyday that do not succeed commercially, and the reasons are not because the ideas were not brilliant.

Do not allow the truth to be obfuscated by those who have no regard for truth or justice. Greed knows no limits by its very nature and greed always oppresses truth to accomplish the goals of greed.
