Your command is quite strange at first glance. If $date has a value (it usually don't unless You've set it Yourself), that is the command it tries to execute, and append its output to a file called tar. If $date is empty it will append empty output to the file tar and the try to execute the next "command" or word on the line, that's how You get "-cvzf: command not found".
Where do You want the date? In the archive file name or as a file in the archive?

Maybe You need something like

date=$(date +%y%m%d_%H%M)
tar -czvf myfile-${date}.tar.gz $MyDir

i meant the command given by date >> tar -cvzf myfile.tar.gz $Dirname. if its not helping then can u please tell me what exactly ur asking as ur output

once again, the "command"

date >> tar -cvzf myfile.tar.gz $Dirname

will execute the command date and append it's output to a file called tar. That is what the >> means. Then it will try to execute the next word on the line, which is -cvzf, and that isn't a recognised command. The command tar is never called. This is because there are certain rules regarding command line syntax.

So the question is, where do You want to put the date? In the tar-archive file name? Or as a file inside the archive?
