Questions regarding OpenSolaris, VirtualBox, and UNIX

I'm sorry for the vague title, but I am a complete newbie to UNIX and whatnot. I literally just tried to learn it 3 hours ago so please bear with me.

I'll just try and start from the top. I downloaded VirtualBox and used that to open OpenSolaris. As far as I can tell, it is working fine, but then again I'm no expert.

I've opened up the terminal in OpenSolaris and have been trying to follow along this tutorial

UNIX / Linux Tutorial for Beginners

but I keep getting the same thing when I try to type % ls. I keep getting "bash: fg: %: no such job"

Can anyone either tell me what's going or tell me how to run UNIX in the simplest way from VirtualBox? I'd like to make this as easy for myself as possible and I would appreciate if anyone could do the same for me. I'm running Windows7 on a Sony E Series Notebook if that matters at all. I'll try and help as much as I can.

Thanks again.

% is the prompt (already there), ls the command (to be keyed in).

There is also a good OpenSolaris wiki with useful resources and documentation for users. Smilie
