VSFTP oddity

I am using smartFTP client on my windows machine to connect to a linux box of mine (different location) to download some large files 100+meg. The linux box is running vsftp.

After several minutes of downloading, the connection suddenly dies, and I cannot reconnect to the box via FTP using ANY CLIENT from ANY MACHINE on this network! If I use a proxy or an external source (e.g. ssh on another linux box on another network and FTP from there) however, I can connect. I know this is not a problem with this particular network, because the same error has occured on other networks. After 5-10-20 minutes of being unable to connect, I am suddenly able to reconnect again.

Anybody have any clues?

Thanks,
Aaron

sounds like the daemon locks out that network due to leaching.

check the man page for the daemon and i am sure you will find a configuration paramater for it.

The man page lists no such setting.

This problem is still persisting. Anyone have any new suggestions?

One more addition. I have switched ISPs (from dsl to cable) since the problem began, and it has made no difference. I am assuming it is a problem with the linux box (unless it could be a problem with the linksys router).

I never heard of vsftp. Have you tried another ftp server? I would probably try pure FTP or something if this happened to me. When the problem happens, can you "ftp localhost" on the linux box? If not, that would point the finger at the server.

Thanks for your reply. VSFTP is the default FTP server that was installed with redhat linux 9.

And yes, I can "ftp localhost" on the linux box. In fact, as I mentioned in the original thread, while a specific network is blocked out, I can still FTP from other networks.

What other ftp servers are available?
