Arithmetic operartions and fields..

Hi,
By using a script I end up with the following variables
$a has contents
2464
5914
5914
5914
5914
$b has
308
739
739
739
739
$c has
8
8
8
8
8

they each are retrieved in separate for loops from different files. I need to divide each value in $a by the corresponding value in $b and compare the result to value in $c.
eg: 2464 / 308 == 8

thanks Smilie

Which language are you programming in?
Are the variables $a, $b and $c arrays? If so, the solution is very trivial: you create the same loop and do the comparison within the loop. What exactly are you having difficulty with?

My apologies for the poorly framed question. Smilie

Yes the solution would have been trivial in c ...However, I am programming in unix. The variables $a, $b, $c are retrieved from the content of some files in different parts of the script.
I was able to solve the problem ...

Code:
echo $a>>v1
echo $b>>v2
echo $c>>v3
paste v1 v2 v3 >v4.txt
awk '$4=$1/$2==$3?"success":"error"_' v4.txt

Well, Unix is not a programming language, but an operating system. You're utilizing one off the shells, probably the bourne shell.
