ps -ef |grep help

when I run
Code:
ps -ef |grep sqljw

I get

Code:
sqlsys 4522102 1 0 Mar 05 - 0:52 dba_sqljw_DEV
sqlsys 4522201 1 0 Mar 08 - 0:52 dba_sqljw_DEV
sqlsys 4524104 1 0 Mar 09 - 0:52 dba_sqljw_DEV

Now what I want is some how if I can get if the result of my 1st grep command is from 2 days older then today's date do some other commands i.e.

copy
compress
etc. etc

How can I do this?

Unfortunately, you speak in riddles. What is it you want?

ps is a Process Scan utility, so it's only applicable to current processes. You'd need to continually output your ps results to a log and work on that content. Or do you mean you're looking for older processes? Then you'd need to establish an appropriate regex on the date strings...

In any case, what are you looking to copy and compress? Again, these are processes, so there's no implicit disk to copy, compress, etc.

This is what I want ..if the result of
ps -ef |grep sqljw something is from older then 2 days I want to do some other database script to run
end then exit

something like this

Code:
set x1 = 'ps -ef |grep sqljw'

if [ ${?} -ne 0 ]
then
  /db/scripts/sql/sqlEOJ1
    exit
fi

Lightbulb

SmilieIts still complicated..

But what i understand is -

That if the ps -ef | grep "string" returns some process which started like 2 days back (the process start time returned by ps -ef) then you want to trigger some database script.

< Please let us know if u agree with above

Hey,
If you can hardcode the date , below might just work Smilie.. or do you want to keep the dates as variable?

Code:

Count=` ps -ef | grep "Mar  8" | wc -l `
if [ Count -ne 0 ]
then
....Your db script....
