UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I wanted to add /home/oracle/sql to my path so that from which ever directory i connect to sqlplus i should be able to source the .sql files sitting in /home/oracle/sql. Also,

this is what i tried but it doenst work

export PATH=$PATH:.:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/etc:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/local/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/home/oracle/sql

$PATH is a search order for executables.

i dont know what you mean by source the sql files in Xdirectory.

when you source something you get env variables or aliases and pull them into your current running shell.

i dont know much about sql but i believe if you wanted to setup an alias for /home/oracle/sql so you dont have to type the full path to the directory do something like this.

export SQLFILES=home/oracle/sql

(this would work in ksh)

then in yoru sql client you would use $SQLFILES/run_me.sql or what ever your sql file is.

Thanks but this didnt work for me. Unless I dont copy the sql files to $ORACLE_HOME/bin which is in the patch then I cant source it for some reason within SQLPLUS.
