what did you configure? what happens? when you say you cant login, you are prompted for a user name and password? have you tried text only (no x session) login?
please provide more information.

Problem:
ok i was trying to setup the kdm gui login on FreeBSD 4.8.
I modified the etc/ttys file so that the kdm gui loaded when bsd was booted, it boots before the normal login so you have to login through the gui, you cant login normally. However i (think i) misconfigured kde's login manager wrong and so when i tried to log in through the kdm gui login it would not start kde.

Solution:
I had to press a key other than enter before the kernel booted to get the command prompt. Then i had to type boot -s to boot the sytem in single-user mode, then login as root.
Then i had to mount the filesystems using mount -a.
Then i had to modify the etc/ttys file so that the kdm gui login didnt load after booting.

hope this might possibly help someone in the future Smilie

thanks again norsk hedensk
