How to read a file into a variable?

Hello,

I have a ini-file containing comma-separated e-mail addresses, an bash-script sending a mail. Mail-addresses and the mail-script are separated, so I need not to change the important mail script.

But how can I read out the file into a variable? It is possible to handover the mail addresses as parameter, but I want to use that ini-file.

I tried

Code:
TO << MailAddress.ini

mail -s "$SUBJECT" "$EMAIL" $TO < $EMAILMESSAGE

but it didn't work

can anyone help me?

THX Smilie

One way...
Code:
TO=$(cat MailAddress.ini)

Try this..

TO=`cat MailAddress.ini`

`something` accomplishes the precise same thing as $(something).

Bug

Hi,

Use the below line for getting the email addresses from the MailAddresses.ini file and assigned into the TO.

TO=`eval cat MailAddress.ini`;
