The correct syntax:
Code:
tar -cf /tmp/Test_shell/ZipTestFolder/archive10.tar -C /tmp/Test_shell/ZipTestFolder .

#watch:
ant:/tmp2 $ tar -cvf wks.tar -C /home/vbe/wks .
a ./.k 40 blocks
a ./.r.c 1 blocks
a ./.l 40 blocks
a ./liebig_creuser.howto 3 blocks
a ./newgaga 2 blocks
a ./cal_use 1 blocks
....

it works but creates the folder called "no_name" with it. Smilie

Is there any way we can exclude this folder from getting inside the tar while creation.

I guess i found the trouble out ... we were trying to extract the TAR using pkzip at the other end. so it was showing us that folder coming up in the extracted files.

i extracted it using tar -xf, it worked fine for me.

$ tar -tvf archive11.tar
ksh: Cannot exceed the user or group quota.
drwxrwxrwx 37914 2442       0 Feb 10 10:51:41 2010 ./
-rwxrwxrwx 37914 2442   44649 Jan 15 14:23:52 2010 ./100115100004.pdf

PKZIP was creating folder no_name for the empty directory reference present inside tar.
