How to install a network card

Hey guys,

Sorry, this question might look stupid but I have no idea how to install a network card.
My server is a Dell PowerEdge T105 with Debian 5.0 Lenny.
My network card is a Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express.

I've plugged the card innside my server and I can see it is detected with this command:
Code:
lspci | grep -i ethernet
01:07.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105/VT6106S [Rhine-III] (rev 86)
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express

Now if I run ifconfig, I only have eth0 and eth1. But my new card is the 3rd one so it should appear as eth2. How can I make it happen? Should I install some drivers?

Thx for your help.

ifconfig, by default, shows only configured cards (those with an address). ifconfig -a will show all.

Hi Pludi,

Thanks, you're right, ifconfig -a shows somthing different:
I had a eth2_rename directive somewhere, went to modify /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and it all works fine now.

Thank you very much!
Santiago
