/var/adm/messages records... [ID 702911 user.error] AEN event ...

Warning... I am a newb. Smilie

I basically know how to add/rm users, kill pids and monitor diskspace. Not an idiot, but honestly a windows database person. I don't know much about what I am asking about.

In the /var/adm/messages file, today this was added:

Code:

I checked the drive's lights and none are amber, but perhaps I should run a check to see if any of the drives have been degraded or are failing?

What are some good first steps to see what is going on? Can someone point me to some novice tips on verifying in a drive is in disrepair?

I guess some more info on my system would help (duh):
SunOS my_server 5.8 Generic_117350-46 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4

Thanks in advance,
-Matt G.

It would be worth consulting the disk manufacturers website for the definition of the SCSI error codes you are seeing.
Looking at:
Astronomy Department Computing Report January 2000
it says:
Probable cause:
"The controller has detected that the battery is nearing its expiration date."

Just to further follow up...

Since we have Storedge A1000...

Code:
    /usr/lib/osa/bin/healthck -a
    /usr/lib/osa/bin/lad { this gets the disks, first field each line}
    /usr/lib/osa/bin/drivutil -i {disk from lad output} example c1t5d0
    /usr/lib/osa/bin/drivutil -l {disk from lad output} example c1t5d0
    /usr/lib/osa/bin/drivutil -p {LUN # from drivutil -l} {disk}

...the above was able to verify that the battery needed to be replaced on the drive.
