how do i install gnome under openbsd?

Right, its a basic one here. I have installed openBSD version 3.1, and gotten Xfree working, after many trial and errors. my next big problem is installing Gnome. I've unTAR'd it to /usr/bin, and, if i remember rightly, a few other places as well. how do i get the console/anything to recognise that there is actually gnome there, and how do i make it work?

also, for later on down the track, will i be able to use a network neighborhood- style network interface, mainly for file and print sharing? the other computer is running windows ME, and thats all set up for a connection with winXP. if there are any specific settings i need to change on the ME box, please let me know, in addition to how to set up the bsd box to connect to it.

Thanks in advance

so youve unpacked gnome to a specific location. next step is to cd into the newly created gnome directory and look for a README and INSTALL file. these will tell you what to do.

in the gnome dir, there is a +INSTALL, and a +README, they're both files, but if i try and vi them, it spits up a blank document. what am i doing wrong?

maybe you are typing the command wrong, i noticed you have +README and +INSTALL. where are those plus symbols (+) from? simply typing less README and less INSTALL should let you view those files fine.

Ok, i finally found the pkg_add command. i got all the .tgz's in the same spot, and unpacked them all. However, when i try to run gnome, it doesnt work. I get this:

pc# gnome-session

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
SESSION_MANAGER=lolcal/p:/tmp/.ICE-unix/13301

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
pc#

This is running it from the command shell. Should I try from xfree? or is there a config or something that needs to be done?
