Burn long filenames to CD

I downloaded a file with a name like "longfilename.cpio.gz" from a WinXP machine and burned it to a CD with Nero. When I mounted this CD on my Solaris box, all I could read was the first 8 characters of the filename (ie. "longfile").

Do I need to burn these files with a certain format so Solaris can recognize the full filename?

Thanks.

Hi,

You have to burn your CD with RockRidge extensions, ISO9660 only supports 8.3 filenames format.

Thanks for the info. I figured it was something with the incompatibility of Windows CD format and UNIX.

Apparently, the popular CD recording software (EasyCD & Nero) don't support the Rockridge format. A couple applications that I found that support the Rockridge format are Burnatonce (freeware) and CDEveryWhere .
