Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anybody knows how to do just a few things here. I am pretty sure it's possible, but I don't know exactly how it is done... Let's say I have a long file, and I want to append every other line to another file.
I know that to append the entire thing, you would do something like:
cat file1 >> file2 , it will take all the contents from file1 and add it to the end of file2. If I just wanted to do the odd line numbers, how would I do that? Would I need to pipe it to cut and/or sort or something like that? If someone could give me an idea for that, I would really appreciate it! I'm new and learning, but it's a lot of fun and I am really enjoying Unix, and I hope to continue learning more and more. Hopefully I will be able to come on here and answer newbie questions like this one day
One other question that I had here, and it is somewhat similar... How do I do an ls command where I sort the listing so that it only shows files after a certain date and bigger than a certain size in all sub-directories, all sorted by size in reverse order?
Again, if anybody could let me know anything about how to do stuff like this, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!
Jason
