Quotes

Hello,

I notice when I do echo $A and echo "$A" I get the same result but when I echo '$A' I get $A. What are the quotes used for then?

Code:
Double quotes preserve space characters.

# A="a b"
# echo $A
a b

# A="a b"
# echo $A
a b
# echo "$A"
a b

Single quotes stop the shell interpreting what is between those quotes.

# echo '$A'
$A
