what's the terminal command to do this ?

what's the terminal command to do this ?

Quote:
Depending on the security configuration of your Web server the recommended default permissions of 755 for directories and 644 for files should be reasonably secure.

and you can set a "umask" to have the dirs with the right permissions at creation time.

chmod 755 dirname or chmod 644 filename

If I use this... is it working recursively ?

I have to change permissions to all my website.. 755 for all folders and subfolders and 644 for all files

thanks

'man chmod' yields the following:
Code:
OPTIONS
     The following options are supported:

-f Force. chmod will not complain if it fails to change
           the mode of a file.

-R Recursively descends through directory arguments, set-
ting the mode for each file as described above. When
symbolic links are encountered, the mode of the target
file is changed, but no recursion takes place.

Generally the directory has the 777 and the files have the 666 permitions (if your umask value is 000). but if your umask value is 022 then for directory it will be (777-022) which is 755
and for file will be (666-022) which is 644).

use umask to see the umask current permition(just like 022 or 000 or anything else)

enjoy,
Sanjay

find . -type f -exec chmod 644 (for files)
find . -type d -exec chmod 755 (for directories)
