Modifying a file using SED

Dear Members,

I have a file which contains data as shown below:
Code:

LOAD DATA
APPEND
INTO TABLE xxap.test
( RAW_DATA char(3000) "replace(:raw_data,'*','|')",
  LOADING_SEQUENCE "xx_gl_bank_fee_s1.nextval",
  CREATION_DATE SYSDATE,
  LAST_UPDATE_DATE SYSDATE,
  ATTRIBUTE1 "DATE_STAMP",
  ATTRIBUTE2 "SOURCE")

I have a variable suppose var1 whose value is 20090903. I want to substitute "DATE_STAMP" with var1.

I am trying to use sed for this as below:

Code:
sed -e 's/DATE_STAMP/${var1}/g' test.txt

If i do this its not substituting the value, rather its putting var1 as a value as shown below:

Code:
LOAD DATA
APPEND
INTO TABLE xxap.test
( RAW_DATA char(3000) "replace(:raw_data,'*','|')",
  LOADING_SEQUENCE "xx_gl_bank_fee_s1.nextval",
  CREATION_DATE SYSDATE,
  LAST_UPDATE_DATE SYSDATE,
  ATTRIBUTE1 "${var1}",
  ATTRIBUTE2 "SOURCE")

How can substitute the actual value of variable var1.

Thanks

use double-quotes (") instead of the single-quotes (').
