How about moving an entire folder and its contents?

Would it be the same comand line, just removing the file name?

With parameter "-r" you could copy directories with scp.

Syntax is: scp -r directory user@targethost:/

This will copy directory to target host as a /directory.

So in your example:

scp -r /users/bernardo/desktop bernardo@192.168.0.1:/users/bernardo/

Will copy whole desktop directory to host 192.168.0.1 under directory /users/bernardo/.

After trying out some 20 comand lines I finally have learned it.

One has to be concerned about which computer one is logged on. On my first try, I was copying files within the hard disk of the same computer.

So I want to post this message to explain it better how it works...

But it works this way:

Let's say the machine you are working on is IP: 192.168.0.100, and the machine you want to bring the files from is 192.168.0.104

You have same user name on both computers. In my case: "bernardo"

The folders you want to move is "TestFolder" on the desktop folder of the remote computer.

Important: No need to log on the remote computer!

the comand line is:

scp -r bernardo@192.168.0.104:/users/bernardo/Desktop/Testfolder /users/bernardo/Desktop

The password on the remote computer will be asked.

This comand line creates a "TestFolder" on your "Desktop" directory, and moves all of its contents from the remote computer to your local "TestFolder".
