Unix Sco5

Hi all,

I am new to LINUX/UNIX. After many hours searching the net i am convinced that it is the way to go. What turned me on to this is that i need to run some software that I am told will only run on LINUX with SCO5 UNIX. I have bought a copy of Red hat which I will attempt to set up as a dual boot with windows 2K pro.

What I cant seem to find is a source for SCO5. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any other advice on this would also be most welcome.

I hope the above makes sense.

Regards,

Alan.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses.

The software I want to run is an automotive diagnostic package.

I was told it would run on LINUX but am now told it needs UNIX SCO5. I have Red Hat.
Now for the silly newbie questions.
Do I need LINUX to run UNIX?
If so, is Red Hat suitable?
Ideally, I would like to run this as a dual boot with windows 2K Pro, is this a good idea? or possible even?

Thanks in advance.

Alan.

SCO unix is a seperate OS. You don't need linux to run it. I would try the sco web site as a place to start. I don't know where to buy it.

Your question is actually a bit ironic. SCO has filed a very controversial lawsuit claiming the Linux has SCO source code in it.

See SCO sues IBM for some details.

Hi ,

u need to get SCO5 if they say it need sco5 . Dual booting yes u can do a dual boot. partiotion ur drive the first partion will be your win2k then the rest of the drive leave it unpartition. install win2k , then after installing win2k , install sco5 the sco 5 will see the unpartion space and it will install unix at that side.
I think u might as well get sco5 coz the software u will install has a shell commands that run on sco5 unix has a lot of flavors some commands will work on some unix some will not different flavors.

goodluck,

Smilie
