chmod -R recursive flag

Hi,

why can't I use the flag -R recursive ?

ftp> chmod -R a+xwr kickstart
usage: chmod mode remote-file

ftp> chmod a+xwr kickstart
200 SITE CHMOD command successful

Where implemented at all, the "site chmod" command in a ftp session is not the same as the full unix command and has only basic functionality.

see "man ftpd" on the target system.

so it is not possible to do it recursively through ftp ?
