I copied my file (so I can backup).

How do I edit? I am dialed into the system, and I can get in and out of vi editor; however, my command to move the cursor to the left (the h key) doesn't work. Could this be a type of terminal issue?

Thanks.

You should see an executable file called bash under the /bin directory (or a link to it). You may not have it.

Post the OS and version you are running and also look to see if you have an /etc/shells file. Post anything in that too.

The other interesting thing is that NONE of the entries in the /etc/passwd you posted have the last field except the one you wanted to change, the "nouser" account (no shell - can't login) and info (using the /usr/bin/infosh executable).

I just realized that I was not going to the bottom of the file.

The few lines are actually:

owner1:,..nH:206:50:owners login:/mdbase/loc1:../menus/menumngr

owner2:,..nH:207:50:owners login:/mdbase/loc1:../menus/menumngr

multi:,..nH:208:50:Multi Screen Login:/:/usr/bin/multi

The username that the normal users use is owner1.

Does this change anything for you?

Moderator's note: I edited a couple of posts to click the "Disable Smilies in this Post" checkbox. This is right below the box where you type in your text. This is the secret to getting rid of those smilies in the passwd entries.
