Question compiling fdmsfs and binaries to 9.04ubuntu

fdmsfs reads fostex 24channel hard disk recorder info from the Fostex Disk Management System which I use to record original music i.e. recording engineer. it is not listed in the synaptic packages anywhere. so i used info from this link ://ww w.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Teaching/Unix/unix7. html UNIX Tutorial Seven to try to compile it. scary stuff like error or warning was the best i got out of it. I think this link is not Ubuntu friendly.
I have no internet connection for linux at present. I copied a cd and unpacked these files in my Document folder: fdmsfs_0.4.1.tar and fdmsfs-bin_0.4.1.tar. using sudo helped but I now more confused. I think i put something in the wrong place. I should probably find it. The Fostex HD2424 is a great sounding recorder. But it does not do a good job of offloading backups and subsequently the antique HDD's I need to use for it fill up quickly.
fdmsfs allows me to strip the wav files from the disk quickly. then i can burn a back up and manipulate them to master CD's and such. without FDMSfs it is much harder to back up my multi-track masters. please help me stop pulling out my hair. Ubuntu uses PULSE audio so it should be compatable.

To keep the forums high quality for all users, please take the time to format your posts correctly.

First of all, use Code Tags when you post any code or data samples so others can easily read your code. You can easily do this by highlighting your code and then clicking on the # in the editing menu. (You can also type code tags
and
by hand.)

Second, avoid adding color or different fonts and font size to your posts. Selective use of color to highlight a single word or phrase can be useful at times, but using color, in general, makes the forums harder to read, especially bright colors like red.

Also use paragraphs to make your post better readable to other people.

Third, be careful when you cut-and-paste, edit any odd characters and make sure all links are working property.

Thank You.
